2 JSA athletes in line for college soccer’s most prestigious award

Marcos Kitromilides and George Tasouris have been rewarded for their outstanding seasons by being named to the 2021 Men’s Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Hermann Trophy is awarded annually to the best male and female player in college soccer and is considered college soccer’s most prestigious award. The Watch List features just 44 players from over 6,000 men’s soccer players competing in NCAA Division 1.

Both Kitromilides and Tasouris began their careers at APOEL Nicosia before moving to the US for their studies. Kitromilides who has made the all-conference team every year of his collegiate career so far, was named in the All-Atlantic Region First Team for 2021. The Cypriot striker was an integral part of Lafayette’s undefeated regular season record. Tasouris, one of just three goalkeepers featured on the Watch List, was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-WAC First Team honors last season.

Even though I am a person who prefers receiving team [or] collective awards, it’s always nice to receive personal accolades. It’s just a great recognition of my hard work over the past years, it provides me with extra motivation to keep on working - Marcos Kitromilides

The Men’s Watch List is updated periodically throughout the season, with 15 players named Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30, 2021. After a final round of voting three finalists are named on Dec. 15. The 2021 winner will be announced on Jan. 7, 2022, in a ceremony at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo. Past winners include English Premier League legend Brad Friedel, Claudio Reyna who enjoyed a long career in the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League, and in more recent years Jordan Morris of Swansea City.
