We are pleased to announce that Cyprus youth NT winger, Orthodoxos Orthodoxou, will be joining UNC Charlotte in Fall 2024.
A product of AEK Larnaca's academy, Orthodoxou made his top division debut with AEK at the age of 17. He has also been a member of the Cyprus youth national teams from U15 to U19 level. Last season Orthodoxou made 21 appearances with ASIL Lysis FC in the Cyprus Second Division.
UNC Charlotte competes in NCAA Division 1 and under the tutelage of head coach Kevin Langan, their men's soccer team has established itself as one of the top programs in the nation. In 12 seasons under Langan, the team has qualified for the national tournament 10 times.
Last season, Charlotte won its conference championship and finished the season ranked 14th in the nation. The team's standout midfielder, Riyon Tori, was selected by Orlando City in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. In addition two players, Sean Suber and Kameron Lacey, were drafted in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. In total during Langan's reign as head coach, over 20 players have signed professional contracts.
The university is located 20 minutes from downtown Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte is regularly ranked as one of the best cities in the USA for millennials. Most notably it has the third-highest concentration of financial services talent among the top 50 metros, with several major corporations such as Bank of America having their global headquarters in Charlotte.
