We are pleased to announce that Cyprus U21 NT centerback, Andreas Evangelou, will be joining UNC Charlotte in Fall 2023.
A product of Omonoia Nicosia's academy, Evangelou made his top division debut with Omonoia at the age of 17. He has also been a member of the Cyprus youth national teams from U15 to U21 level. Last season Evangelou made 18 appearances with PAEEK FC in the Cyprus Second Division.
UNC Charlotte competes in NCAA Division 1 and under the tutelage of head coach Kevin Langan, their men's soccer team has established itself as one of the top programs in the nation. In 11 seasons under Langan, the team has qualified for the national tournament 9 times.
Last season, Charlotte boasted the best attack in Division 1, averaging 2.93 goals per game. In addition two players, Sean Suber and Kameron Lacey, were drafted in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. In total during Langan's reign as head coach, 19 players have signed professional contracts.
The university is located 20 minutes from downtown Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte is regularly ranked as one of the best cities in the USA for millennials. Most notably it has the third-highest concentration of financial services talent among the top 50 metros, with several major corporations such as Bank of America having their global headquarters in Charlotte.
