Congratulations to former JSA athlete and University of Virginia alumni, Oliver Gerbig, for his debut in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup! The AFC Asian Cup is the premier international tournament in Asia and is held every four years. Gerbig played the entire 90 minutes in Hong Kong's opening round match versus the United Arab Emirates.
Gerbig who made his men's national team debut in November 2023 has quickly established himself as a starter for the national team. He is part of a new generation of players that has pushed the national team to new heights, helping Hong Kong qualify for the Asian Cup for the first time since 1968.
