Congratulations to JSA athlete and University of Virginia alumni, Oliver Gerbig for his professional debut for Kitchee SC! Oliver's debut came vs Thailand's BGPU in the last 16 of the Asian Champions League.
Gerbig who is a dual citizen of Germany and Hong Kong graduated from the University of Virginia in December 2021. The center back who came close to signing a contract in the Chinese Super League but unfortunately didn't materialize due to quarantine restrictions, recently signed a professional contract with Hong Kong champions, Kitchee SC. The club qualified for the last 16 of the Asian Champions League, after finishing second in their group, only one point behind Vissel Kobe, the Japanese giants who boast players such as Andres Iniesta and Bojan Krkic on their roster.
Gerbig is expected to play a key role in Kitchee's quest to win their domestic championship for the third time in a row.
Several University of Virginia alumni have gone on to have great careers in professional soccer, most notably West Bromwich Albion's Daryl Dike and Brondby's Joe Bell.
