University of Portland alumni and WCC Goalkeeper of the Year, George Tasouris, has joined the LA Galaxy on a pre-season trial as the LA Galaxy announced last week.
Tasouris who's in the process of acquiring a green card, will be trying to earn a roster spot for one of MLS' most successful clubs. Former LA Galaxy players include legends of the game such as David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole. The teams current stars are former Bayern Munich and Juventus winger, Douglas Costa, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez who most notably played for Manchester United, and Riqui Puig who signed from Barcelona last August.
Tasouris began his collegiate career at Grand Canyon University (GCU) where he quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in college soccer. In his first season he led GCU to its first ever conference championship whilst being voted the WAC Tournament MVP.
Having finished his undergraduate studies at GCU, Tasouris transferred to the University of Portland for his masters degree. At Portland, Tasouris was short-listed for the Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best player in collegiate soccer whilst being named All-Region and WCC Goalkeeper of the Year. In his final season with Portland, he captained the team to its best season in recent memory, with the Pilots reaching the quarterfinals of the national championship.
